Hardness
The listed hardness values of products are indicative. They are given in HRC and refer to laser welding! Hardness can be affected by several factors, such as: type and condition of the base material, heat treatment, welding parameters, welding method, number of layers, etc.

Shielding Gas
For laser welding, we recommend Ar 4.8 or even 5.0 as the shielding gas.

General Rules for Laser Welding
The basis for quality welds is cleanliness—of the workpiece, filler material, and surroundings. When welding cracked tools, it is especially important to carefully prepare and secure the cracks with appropriate material before welding. Only then can you weld with wires that are otherwise sensitive to cracking. These are mostly wires that produce hard and wear-resistant welds. Failure to do so may cause the crack to spread rapidly into the deposited material.

Pulsing
Pulse shaping is supported by almost all major laser machine manufacturers, but there are significant differences among them. Some offer practically unlimited pulse shaping options, while others only provide a few preset points. For quality welding of certain materials (especially hard materials and some aluminum alloys), the use of pulse shaping is almost mandatory. Otherwise, the weld may crack—not due to the filler material, but due to the technological process.

Laser Welding Parameters
Laser welding differs significantly from other welding methods, and its parameters often determine weld quality. In addition to cleanliness, parameters can affect: porosity in the weld, number and size of micro-cracks, hardness, size of the heat-affected zone, etc.

The wire selection is regularly updated. If the desired wire is not listed in the catalog, please contact us. Most welding wires are also available for TIG welding.

The above data are based on our own measurements and manufacturer data. It is important to note that the listed values may vary slightly—within tolerance limits. The quality and chemical composition of wires also depend on individual production batches from the manufacturers.
